The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was built from 1865 to 1877 as one of the most advanced buildings of the time becoming immediately a reference for hundreds of similar covered arcades all over the world. Its architect Giuseppe Mengoni was inspired by the enormous structures in cast-iron components and glass panels erected during contemporary World’s fairs. When you walk by the glamorous shops, elegant cafè and splendid restaurants you understand why the Milanese people nicknamed it “the living room of Milan”, il salotto. In the middle of the crossing of the two arms of the structure and beneath the massive dome you immediately feel the atmosphere of elegance and style of our city.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a must in every tour of the city of Milan. Discover the story of this massive building and all the anecdotes of the people that made history inside, enjoy a classic Milanese Campari in the charming Camparino bar.
