Roman Milano

13 February 2025 by Giacomo Zavattieri Leave a Comment

Dis you know Roman Milano has been capital of the Roman Empire? Book a tour with us and learn about this amazing story!

For most of the time of the Roman Empire, Mediolanum, this was the name of Milano, has been an important logistic and strategic hub. Being located on the trading routes between Mediterranean area and the regions just North of the Alps,  Cesar used Milano as logistic hub for the conquest of Gallia (now France), the first emperor August came to our city many times.

In the year 286 a.c. de facto our city became capital of the Western part of the Empire and today we can still admire the remains of the Imperial Palace, the Circus, the arena, and the cobbled stones of the forum.

A tour of the small but charming Civico Museo Archeologico is the highlight of the experience. Here you’ll admire unique items, so precious you cannot even find in Rome. Items like the Diatreta Trivulzio and the Patera di Parabiago.

Roman Milano was an important place for the early Christians. It was probably in our city that the emperor Constantine declared freedom for all religions in the empire. Hence in our city are preserved some of the oldest Christian churches in the world!
