The last Michelangelo in Milan

28 December 2018 by MilanoArte

Everybody knows the Sforza Castle, located in the very heart of Milan, few people know that inside its museums is preserved the last sculpture by Michelangelo.

Michelangelo never came to Milano and never worked for the Sforza but in the 1930s we had the chance to buy the Pietà Rondanini. This is the last, unfinished, work by the Tuscan master before he died.

Now the sculpture is preserved in a beautiful special room of the museums, designed by the famous architect Michele De Lucchi. This new set up has been specificcally designed to preserve and better showcase this sculpture and was opened to the public for the Expo in 2015.

Book our guided tours to discover all the secrets about Michelangelo ‘s “Pietà Rodanini” and how it reached our city.
Sforza Castle is also perfect to be fit in a classic tour of Milano, even in combo with the Last Supper!

Tours can be done in Italian, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and many more languages on demand.

Do you know that the Sforza Castle houses another amazing masterpiece?
The Sala delle Asse is the largest painting ever made by Leonardo da Vinci.
Yes, it is even bigger than the Last Supper and it is in Sforza Castle.
Due to the peculiar technique used by da Vinci, the painting is very fragile and that’s why the room is actually closed.
